Tips and prices

Not compulsory to tip!

Here in Iceland, every cost is included in the price. What you see on the price list or menu is what you will pay. This means that all tours, food, products and other services don´t come with an extra service fee or taxes that add to the price. But if you go to a restaurant and you get a great service they will appreciate a tip. Icelanders are well traveled in general so they know what it is and will accept.  But no one will demand or even count on you tipping. When you go to restaurants, for example, the waiter is paid salary that does not count on the customer’s tipping. His salary is calculated into the price of what you’re buying.

There are some myths about that it´s illegal or rude to tip in Iceland. These are simply made up stories. No one here will think it´s rude if you decide to reward them for their exceptional service. The only thing it will do is to encourage him to do the same thing for the next one.
Tipping is not illegal but they usually don´t pay any taxes off it, and that´s where the myth comes from.

Icelanders are in general polite and give good service. We show good hospitality and are one of the safest countries in the world. Wherever you will go you will get a warm welcome.
So if you want to reward that service it´s up to you.
