Yes, you can, it´s that clean!
So this is one of the best things that comes with the clean nature here in Iceland. You can turn on a tap and drink the water. More than that not only can you drink it, but it´s completely safe and clean. In the capital, the water you get comes from a drill hole not far outside of the city itself. It´s located in a beautiful place called Heiðmörk. You might think to yourself that you simply don´t like the taste of tap water. But here in Iceland, the tap water is so clean that you don´t get the same taste as you in many cities. The reason for this is that we don´t clean it with chloride but it comes naturally filtered after running through layers of lava that are in Heiðmörk. The result is this clean (and yes we monitor it) and fresh water directly from the tap without chemicals!
So why buy watered bottled?
Well in short, for the bottle!
There are no reasons for you to buy bottled. Just grab a bottle with you, get to a sink and fill your bottle. If you don´t have the bottle with then you the only reason to buy bottled water… for the bottle, afterward you refill that bottle. Not only is it cheaper (free in most cases) but it´s also friendly for the environment. Not so many years ago you hardly saw water bottles for sales in stores, because no one bought them. Then after the tourist and the cruise ships started to come in larger numbers the stores started selling them.
